This is the most Korean lesson in the course. A few warm, humble phrases turn a transaction into a moment — and they're also your safety net when the conversation outruns you.
When you're stuck
한국어 잘 못해요
hangugeo jal mothaeyo
I'm not very good at Korean.
Disarming and gracious — it makes people patient and warm. 못하다 = to not be able to.
천천히 말해 주세요
cheoncheonhi malhae juseyo
Please speak slowly.
천천히 = slowly. Your single most useful rescue phrase.
다시 한 번 말해 주세요
dasi han beon malhae juseyo
Please say that once more.
다시 = again, 한 번 = one time. No shame in asking — ever.
영어 돼요?
yeongeo dwaeyo?
Do you speak English? (Does English work?)
돼요 again — the same “does it work?” from 카드 돼요?.
Warming the moment
한국 음식 좋아해요
hanguk eumsik joahaeyo
I like Korean food.
좋아하다 = to like. Swap 음식 for 드라마 (dramas), 음악 (music).
정말 친절하세요
jeongmal chinjeolhaseyo
You're really kind.
A small compliment that lands big. 친절하다 = kind; the -세요 ending is the polite, respectful one.
